CHIMNEY SERVICES

CHIMNEY SWEEP & INSPECTION

This is a level 1 inspection that involves examining the easily accessible portions of your chimney, checking that the structure is sound and ensuring that all the components are working properly. If your chimney is in good condition and you haven’t had any problems with your fireplace, this will likely be the level of your regular, annual inspections.

CHIMNEY CROWN

The chimney crown is the upper-most portion of the chimney. Its purpose is to allow smoke and fume to vent through the flue to prevent moisture from getting inside. It is built using cement reinforced with a wire mesh for stability and durability. The lip of the crown is sloped to direct moisture away from the chimney.

Due to its prime location, the chimney crown takes a lot of abuse from outside influences like the weather and environmental conditions. These influences can cause cracks to develop on the crown allowing water to leak behind the bricks inside the chimney. If damages to the crown are not discovered and repaired in a timely manner, the brick masonry will begin to soften, decay and eventually break off the chimney.

PANEL INSTALLATION

Refractory panels are made with heat resistant materials for added protection against the hottest fires and reducing the chance of a chimney fire. There are typically four refractory panel sheets of brick fitted to the sides and back of the fireplace's walls. We will custom cut and replace your existing panels.

CHIMNEY CAPS

The chimney cap acts like a rain hat to help prevent water, birds, small animal and debris from getting inside the flue. It’s mounted above the crown and is often manufactured using stainless steel to wrap the flue inside a cage-like mesh allowing smoke to vent, but prevent outside material from getting into the chimney.

CHASE COVERS

A chase cover is used for a pre-fab or factory-built fireplace. Unlike a chimney cap that covers only the top of the flue opening, a chase cover fits over the top of the chimney. They’re also called “top pans” because they top chimneys that are sided with vinyl, metal, or wood. They are a common cause of rust stains on the chimney if installed incorrectly. Chase Covers typically take anywhere between 2-4 weeks after order is placed.

TOP MOUNTED DAMPERS

Top Mount Dampers are used to seal a wood burning fireplace when not in use - preventing outside air & animals from entering the home

WATERSEAL

Waterproofing is the act of preventing water from damaging or deteriorating your chimney. If your Chimney masonry already has gaps, voids, cracks or missing mortar then the Chimney should be repaired first before waterproofing.
